Pastor and People Happy Over
Year's Achievement
_______________________________
Last Sunday night
was another red letter season for the Hartford Methodist church. As
previously announced the special feature of the service Sunday night was
the burning of all notes against the church. These had previously been
paid as a result of the debt-paying campaign which came to a successful
conclusion on the first Sunday in this month. Also promissory notes
held by the church against individuals who could not pay were burned.
Speeches of
Appreciation
Speeches of
appreciation that the church was out of debt and wore two coats of new
paint were made by various members of the church while they held the
burning notes in their hand. These speakers expressed the sentiment that
there is at this time a better spirit of unity, co-operation, and
enthusiasm in the church than ever before. Those who spoke were J.C.
Holman, W.F. Clemmons, S.G. Burch, A.A. Smith, Mr. B. Daughtry, J.M.
Ribley, Lex Corbitt, J.A. Hughes, Bush Cox, J. T. Holman, Charles Corbitt,
Mrs. Nell Dunson, Mrs. W.F. Clemmons, Mrs. John R. Howell and Mrs. Bush
Cox.
Pastor and
People Happy
Pastor R.J. Haskew
and his people are happy over the year's achievements. Pastor Haskew will
go to the Annual Conference in good spirits. He expects his financial
report, which is $10,000 in round numbers, to be first in the district,
and perhaps third in professions of faith. He most heartily appreciates
the interest and co-operation shown in paying off the church debt. He
is also the happy recipient of a new suit of clothes and a top coat. As if
to show that when a good thing gets started it is hard to stop, it is now
announced that the church proposes to repair and repaint the parsonage.
