The
season of Lent is coming to an end, and I pray that it has been a
good time of spiritual reflection and soul searching for you.
As we go through the final week of Lent we are reminded that it is
the holiest week in our Christian year. The events of this
week forever changed the history of God's people. Jesus
instituted the sacrament of Holy Communion during the Passover
Meal that week. The church has been breaking bread and
partaking of the cup together ever since.
On Good Friday we
recognize Jesus' crucifixion and death on the cruel Roman cross.
It is very humbling to know that our God would undergo such
torment for the sins of His creatures. We should never
question His love when a day such as Good Friday exists. We
will recognize these events in several ways during this Holy Week.
On Wednesday April 8th at 6:00 pm, we will gather in the sanctuary
for a video presentation of "Christ in the Passover." Then
on Maundy Thursday at 6:00pm, we will have communion followed by a
tenebrae service.
However, none of these
events would even be mentioned but for the resurrection we will
celebrate on Easter Sunday. May we at Hartford First United
Methodist continue to find new life in the power of our
resurrected Lord as we continue this journey to the cross.
Blessings,
Rev. Jimmy Cook
