Spring is in full swing and the warm days are a welcome change
from the cold days we had this winter. However, the years
must be taking their toll on me now. It seems that every
spring a new type of pollen gets added to the allergy list.
Even with the pollen-induced watery eyes and runny nose spring is
still my favorite season. We may not have the picturesque
fall colors that our neighbors up north enjoy, but our springtime
flowers and flowering trees make up the difference. Even
wild mustard blooms are pretty when you have a 20-acre field full
of them. I have a 1/2 acre of them in the back yard so I
might as well enjoy them. It's a wonderful season of new
life as we get out and enjoy the creation.
We also have a new staff member coming on board with us at the
church this spring. It is my pleasure to announce to you
that Larry Summers will be our new Music Director starting this
first week of April. Larry comes to us with much ministry
and music experience. Larry and his wife, Judy live in
Slocomb and have been attending Hartford Baptist Church. I
am looking forward to getting to know them better as I'm sure you
are. We welcome them into the life of our church.
I'm glad that God has brought us the right person for this job.
I understand that some of the choir members are happy because it
takes some pressure off of them. However, I want to thank
everyone who has stepped up and made the interim period work out
so beautifully. Whether you have led us in worship a few
times or many, those of you who filled in have fulfilled a great
need and I sincerely thank you.
So this is a season of new life all around us in creation and in
the life of our church. But let us never forget that this
season brings with it an Easter celebration. It offers us
new life in Jesus Christ and another opportunity to stand together
and proclaim that He has risen! He has risen indeed!
Blessings,
Rev. Jimmy Cook
