Methodist's have several
distinguishing characteristics. One of the characteristics
is how our churches are supplied with pastors. I'm sure we
all know that our pastors are part of an itinerant system in which
we go wherever we are appointed by the Bishop and his/her cabinet.
There are three ways that a pastor can move from their current
appointment. Every year the pastor completes a form
requesting to either remain in the current appointment or to be
appointed to another church. The Staff Parish Relations
Committee (SPRC) also fills out a form stating their desire to
keep the current pastor or to request a new pastor be appointed.
There is also the possibility that the bishop could move the
pastor if they want him/her in another location.
Well, it is that time of year and
Paul and I have both asked to stay at Hartford First United
Methodist. Fortunately for us after a vote of the SPRC, we
have been asked to come back. While there is that third
possibility that I mentioned, the early word is that the bishop
and cabinet have no desire to move us at this time.
I'm excited about the opportunity
to serve you another year. There are many activities that we
will engage in, but the thing I look forward to the most is
growing spiritually with you as we minister together this years.
Blessings,
Rev. Jimmy Cook
