A Letter from the Pastor

The Tatum's

On  April 19th, our congregation had the opportunity to meet the Tatum Family.  The Tatum's will be serving in Coronado, Costa Rica, as house parents in the United Methodist Orphanage that is under construction.  I recently reported in the Sunday Morning announcements that the Tatum's had already departed for Coronado; however, they are actually in the state of Colorado.  Although I reported a slight error in the location, the purpose of their time in Colorado is to work on language skills.  They will need to master Spanish.  If you would like to keep up with their progress, you can read their reports at www.missioncostarica.com which we also have linked on our church's website.

We should keep them lifted up in prayer as they follow God's call onto the mission field.  We also need to add another dimension to our prayers concerning Costa Rica.  We need to be in prayer about our next step with the orphanage.  We are in the early stages of planning a short term mission trip next summer.  This mission team will include everyone in our church and every member is important.  We need to begin praying for the discernment of those who will be going on the short term trip in 2010.  While all the details are not worked out, some information is available.  The trip will likely be in June or July of 2010.

We will need people who are willing to do construction work on the orphanage--experience not required.  We will need a couple of team cooks who will go shopping daily and help prepare meals for the worksite.  We will also need people to do Bible School lessons and crafts every evening with children in local churches.  Even if you do not go on the trip we will need prayer support, help gathering materials, and financial support.  Seek the Lord in prayer about your involvement with this trip.  We will have an information meeting in late August or September for those who are called to take up this mission.  At that time we will be able to answer questions and share what you might expect on this mission trip.

Blessings,

Rev. Jimmy Cook
