It has been two weeks now
since we were invited to a holy observance of Lent. We were
called to a time of self-examination, penitence, prayer, fasting,
reading and meditating on the Word of God. For the whole
month of March, we will be observing Lent. I pray that this
has already been and will continue to be a great time of growth in
your relationship with God. I want to take time to remind
you of the things that we will do as a church as we reflect on
Christ's journey to the cross.
First of all, it's time for us to
have our crosses up with the purple drapes on them. April
2nd is Good Friday which is when we install the black drape.
Sunday, April 4th is Easter when the white drape is installed.
Secondly, I want to point out some
of the special services that take place. March 28th is Palm
Sunday. The processional of palms is always interesting to
me because you never know what a group of palm-branch waving
children are going to do when the time comes. Thursday,
April 1st is Maundy Thursday. We will meet at 6:00 p.m. for
a service of Holy Communion. On Saturday, April 3rd at 1:00
p.m. the children will enjoy the annual Easter egg hunt.
Final details will be announced later. Then on April 4th we
celebrate Easter, the highest day of the Christian Year.
So from self-examination to
celebration, that is the process of this Christian journey.
Let us not forget that Jesus experienced a cross on that journey.
We may also find some uncomfortable times during this examination.
Whatever you find, take it to the cross and let's celebrate
newness in Christ this Easter.
Blessings,
Rev. Jimmy Cook
