Circuit
Drivers
I drive a 1994 black
Volvo 940. It is just a 4 cylinder. It has almost 200,000 miles on
it. The tape deck is broken, so only the radio works. The heater
just went out, so I have begun to drive with gloves. It has a crack
in the windshield, and the "Oh-my-gosh" handles have fallen off. In
the absence of a pick-up truck it has carried my deer out of the
Alabama woods. Still, I love it. She is mine and she is paid for.
What do you drive? Some
folks cruise the streets of Hartford in their S.U.V.'s. Some of your
travel in the style of 4 X 4 pick-up trucks. Others enjoy the svelte
comforts of Lincoln's and Caddy's. With all those differences, we
still have some commonalities in our rides. More important than what
we drive is WHO we drive.
WHO do your drive? I
drive myself, my children, my wife, colleagues, and sometimes a
friend. I find myself taking transportation for granted. I usually
have reliable transportation (Thanks to Brannon Auto Parts!). I just
crank her up and head off to the wild blue yonder. Some folks,
however, find transportation much more difficult. We have folks in
our church and community whose doctor appointments, trips to the
pharmacy, and necessary trips are much harder to secure.
To address this need, the
Hartford First United Methodist Church is beginning a new ministry.
We need drivers who have a passion for helping others with
transportation. We want people who are more concerned with who they
drive than what they drive. We've said before that a church alive is
worth the drive. I believe that folks in need are worth a drive,
too. Would you like to be a part of these "Circuit Drivers?" Would
you enjoy taking needy folks to the hospital or doctor's office? If
so, please call our church office to sign up.
Finally, are you one of
the folks that needs to be driven? We want to drive you. If you find
yourself in need of a ride for a special appointment, please call
the church office. We will make the arrangements for you. Some of
you have expressed your wishes to contribute to this ministry or
take advantage of it. We welcome you to make a donation to the
transportation ministry known as "Circuit Drivers." Any revenue
generated by this ministry will be used to help with transportation
needs of the whole church, including van and bus care, youth and
children's trips, and other transportation needs.
