Travel Plans
The directions that the
pastor had sent me were a page long with at least 10 turns. I wasn't
sure if I was going to be able to find Grace UMC in Mobile. I called
my friend and colleague Robert Beall. Because of his job for
Allstate insurance, he has a computer program that can convert
physical addresses to GPS coordinates. He graciously entered the
street and number into his keyboard and up popped the Global
Positioning Satellite coordinates. I then entered them into my GPS.
I found the church with only two turns.
When I got to the church,
Rev. Dean asked if the direction were okay. I told him how I came.
He said, "well, I thought that way was too hard to find for someone
not familiar with Mobile." He asked how I figured it out. I
explained that I had a GPS and that I knew where I was going.
Have you ever felt like
your life was driving down a road and you weren't sure where you
would end up? Have you ever felt like you were driving in circles or
like you'd been here before? Have you ever wondered if your life,
your family, your children, your job, or your career was headed in
the right direction? Have you ever felt lost and even worse, that
your tank was on empty?
I am convinced that there
are millions of people that are driving their lives away without a
clue of where they are headed. I believer that there are churchs
that have set the cruise control while headed in the wrong
direction.
Ready for the good news?
We have directions! We can alter the course of our lives and steer
towards fulfillment and perfection. Through the Bible and the
nudging of the Holy Spirit, it IS POSSIBLE to know where you are
going. The Hartford First United Methodist church wants to help you
find your way. We want to open up new roadways for your journey. We
want to show you new routes that have been paved by the faithfulness
of the saints. We want you to find your way toward fulfillment and
perfection.
This Sunday after
worship, our church will be planning the calendar for the 2005 year.
We will try to not plan programs, but rather plan our journey
towards where God is calling our church. We will be faithful to our
mission:" Won't you come and help us as we make our travel plans?
Perhaps, you would like
to discuss your travel plans with me. I would love to hear about
your travel arrangements for 2005. Let's plan some ministry
together. Let's get on the road!
