Open House
Sunday was such a great
day for me. Worship was exciting. The children sang. Mrs. Spivey
testified to the love of our congregation. Later, our choir joined
forces with the Hartford Baptist choir in singing a community
cantata. Beth, Greg, Rebecca, David and Tommy all had solo parts.
Malaena, Frances, Eva, Vicki, Kathryn, Amanda, Kim and Anna
completed the Methodist team. Greg and Johnny made sure that the
stage was set up and decorated. Shan looked after the children.
Thanks choir! Thank you Beth! Thank you all for sharing the gift of
Christmas through music.
Sunday was special
to me for another reason as well. Sandra and I opened our home for
an "Open House." We appreciate the work you have put into the
parsonage both before and since our arrival. You have taken up the
carpet, refinished the hard-wood floors, purchased new appliances,
tiled the kitchen floor, painted Emma's room, repaired the gate, and
much more. Thank you! We are grateful for all of you that could come
and take the tour of the parsonage. It was an honor to have you in
our home. You have opened up your homes to us, and it is only
appropriate for us to open our home to you.
We want to express
appreciation to Demerris for watching Gabe and Emma as we prepared
and hosted the open house. Louise and Betty blessed us with divinity
and cheese crackers. Some anonymous benefactor gave us a beautiful
poinsettia. Thank you, Hartford First United Methodist Church! You
have opened your hearts to us.
As we prepare for
the annual celebration of the coming of Christ, let us consider the
"open house" that Christ has prepared for us. Jesus promised his
disciples that He "has prepared a place" for them (Jn 14:2,3).
Christ has prepared a home for us in eternity and a home for us in
the Hartford First United Methodist Church. I pray that you have
found a place in the family and ministry of this great church. Look
around and see if you have a friend that needs a "place" prepared
for them. I believer we are just waiting for them to become part of
our family. Will you invite them to God's open house here in
Hartford? Every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. God hosts an open house on the
corner of Highway 52 and Highway 123. Christ opened His home and
kingdom to us. Now let us open our doors to all who will come.
