Rene' Segura Trust Fund

Picture reprinted with permission from The Dothan Eagle

Rene' lives in Guatemala with his family. They live in a hut with no electricity and no running water. His family is very poor and rely on every family member to help provide support for the family. When he was a teenager, Rene' helped provide some support for the family but then he lost both arms and legs in an electrocution accident.  While Rene' was still in the hospital recovering, Mr. Byrd - a member of First United Methodist Church met him for the first time during a mission trip to Guatemala and a lifetime friendship developed. The Lord has continued to direct Mr. Byrd in an ongoing effort to help Rene' and his family. He has helped to get the Shriners Children's Hospital to assist with medical needs while he was under 18, however Rene' is now considered an adult and that help is no longer available to him.

We are raising money to help with his medical expenses (prosthetics and other medical needs) and to help improve the families living conditions.

December 2006 update...Now that Rene's health has improved, the process has begun to help build Rene' and his family a home.  Grounds have been broken, plans have been made & now the building is about to begin.  Also Rene' has plans to continue his education into college to find a career where he can help support his family. Please keep Rene' in your prayers and in your hearts.

If you would like to help, please contact us here at Hartford First United Methodist Church.
